Michael Kerrigan( HAY SHED HILL ) & Peter Bentley( PIKES ) Winemakers W/ John& Dan Of MAUDE & NEUDORF Wines @ Store

This was a great impromptu tasting that just kept getting more defined as it went along. It started out as a one winemaker event with Michael Kerrigan of HAY SHED HILL, Margaret River, western Australia. We had already been selling Michael's wines at the store starting with his Chardonnay and his Shiraz and to that we then added the Sauvignon Blanc and the Cabernet Sauvignon. Funny, I did not know that he was the winemaker for the VINACEOUS ( Right Hand, Snake Charmer & ) series of three reds and one white ( Divine Light )and so we actually started to sell those before we had the HAY SHED HILL wines.

I wanted to have Michael in the store as I had already visited him at his winery and later had dinner with him in the Margaret River on the street that looks like it could have been taken away from somewhere in the Napa Valley. I already blogged about Michael Kerrigan as well as about Mark Saturno ( one of the three new owners of the LONGVIEW Winery in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia ). You can see those two blog entries at : chataustralia.blogspot.com which include pictures from my trip there to both wineries in February of 2008.

Mark Saturno of the LONGVIEW Winery will be in our store lonight ( Monday, Sept. 21st, 2009 ) from 5:30-8:30 PM tasting his Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, " Red Bucket " dry red and dry white, his Sauvignon Blanc and maybe more, Oh, he will also have a bottle of his excellent dry red Nebbiolo to taste as well. This will be a fun evening.

Anyway, I don't want to get ahead of myself. Last Saturday I knew for sure that Michael Kerrigan would be in the store. At the beginning of the week I realized that winemaker Peter Bentley of PIKES, Clare Valley, South Australia would also be available to taste. This was all exciting as I would get a chance to try the two dry red and white blends from PIKES as well as the bone-dry, steely Riesling and the aromatic, spicy and tasty dry Shiraz.

What was a question mark were both John Kavanagh of the Nelso, New Zealand winery NEUDORF and owner/winemaker Dan Dineen of MAUDE in Central Otago, New Zealand. As it turned out all four showed up and we tasted wines from all four wineries. From NEUDORF we had a superb Pinot Noir and a Chardonnay and from MAUDE we had an equally impressive Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. All the wines sold well, we ewnjoyed a banner day at Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits ( with Arielle Monaco of Country Vintners helping as well as Liz and David of the Australian portfolio ).

We sold out of many of the wines that we had ( and could have sold more if we had had them ) and so have ordered more for the store to arrive tomorrow. I was invited to dinner after closing the store at 9:30 PM down the block at Ardeo and that was a great time as well.

I have pictures of all of this including more to say but am going to post this now so that anybody can read it before tonight's tasting with Mark Saturno of LONGVIEW Vineyards in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia.

Stay tuned for more and come to Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits ( 3423 Connecticut Avenue N.W. Washington D.C. 20008 Tel : 202-363-4265 sales@clevelandparkwine.com www.clevelandparkwine.com ) tonight. There is never any charge. Get a bottle or two signed by Mark of his excellent wines as gifts and ask him about acting as well as he is also an actor. Cheers, TONY
